Sniffing Games for Shy Dogs
is a short, fun online course with live support every step of the way. With lessons that are around 5 minutes each, I'll help you help your dog become a brave explorer. Successful students have ranged from dogs who wouldn't leave their safe spaces at all, to dogs who were nervous in certain contexts or new places.
George really enjoyed the course and I learned a lot.
We now have a new fun activity to play at home which George loves, as well as ideas on how to use sniffing games in the outside world. The individual video feedback was particularly helpful, as well as the advice on how to make adjustments to make it easier or more difficult for your dog. The weekly Zooms were also helpful as it was great to connect with others experiencing similar challenges.

Kelly's thoughtful, kind, respectful and creative approach to training has literally saved my dog’s life.
She now wags her tail & happily follows me outside to potty. I have learned so much from the training sessions, videos and individual feedback.

#1
Introduce a visual "treat" cue. We'll teach your dog that "treat targets" are where the goodies are, to make the game very easy early on. Later, this will help your dog generalize sniffing games to new places.
#2
Teach your dog sniffing games where they feel safest. We'll try out beginner games with your dog, review video fo them together, and make personalized adjustments until they're over the moon about sniffing games.
#3
Move sniffing games into different contexts. You'll learn how to use sniffing games to build your dog's confidence in a variety of settings, so they can start to enjoy exploring new places and become more comfortable in challenging contexts.

About me
Helping fearful dogs build confidence is a topic near and dear to my heart.
I've been working with fearful dogs for almost 15 years, but when I brought home my little Pancake, a terrified, anti-social, untouchable dog, I decided to focus my work on these special, difficult, but very rewarding pups.
My little dog was scared of everything, & had zero interest in interacting with me. He wouldn't even eat treats if I was in the room with him.
With time, patience, love, & a lot of careful training, Pancake is now a happy, cuddly little guy who hikes with his doggy sister every day.
There's no quick fix for fear, & even when you are trying your very best, you'll have good days & bad with your pup. But I promise, there is nothing that fills your heart up more than seeing your previously terrified dog start to find joy in life, with your help.
