Avoid disappointing your sensitive dog
Mar 12, 2025
It's such a wonderful feeling when your fearful dog finally starts to work happily with you in training sessions. But now that they're enjoying training, how do you end a training session without disappointing them?
If your anxious dog keeps trying to sue their behavior to get treats, but it suddenly doesn't work, that can be an unpleasant experiment for them and might discourage them from engaging with you next time you're ready to train.
You can't keep training forever, so what can you do to make the end of training a positive experience for your sensitive pup? I like to redirect a dog to an activity they enjoy at the end of a training session- like a food toy, a sniffing game, or a chew. Check out some examples from my students in the video below:
I hope you find this short training helpful. Shoot me an email at [email protected] if you have questions or comments!
